ITV Daytime video editing teams utilize Avid’s Media Composer and NEXIS software to perform their editorial workflows, and historically, these systems require on-premises workstations and attached shared storage to enable collaboration. Getting the recently shot video, known as digital dailies, from a remote location to this team of editors is time-sensitive and critical to keeping the production on time and within budget. Budget constraints, limited local labor pools, and the impact of extensive infrastructure on their CO² emissions drove ITV to seek a way to enable remote editing for their Avid infrastructure.
ITV selected Microsoft Azure and Support Partners to deliver a secure, fully managed turn-key solution for their Avid editing environment. The hybrid cloud video editing solution operates within ITV’s Microsoft Azure tenant and on-premises systems, enabling a highly secure single-tenant solution that can be deployed into any of the Microsoft data centers. Editors continued to utilize their Avid workstations to access media regardless of location, simplifying workflows and enabling edit-from-anywhere work models.
Navigating changes to how people work can be difficult, and Support Partners’ professional services provided change management expertise, helping ITV maximize its solution investment. In addition, Support Partners’ AIR Workspaces provided a build-and-destroy solution delivery model, reducing operational costs by right-sizing infrastructure provisioning and decreasing CO₂ emissions compared to existing on-premises infrastructure. ITV’s IT support team lacked cloud expertise, so the entire solution was delivered as a managed service from Support Partners. The managed service augments ITV’s support team, providing support and monitoring expertise across IaaS and Avid software components.
ITV editing teams can now complete programs from nearly any location, including their homes, streamlining workflows and staffing models regardless of shooting location. Further, the network has a dynamic infrastructure model to support future production resource demands, so it pays for only what it needs. With Microsoft’s zero emissions initiative, ITV can reduce CO₂ emissions by utilizing greener IT infrastructure and Support Partners’ dynamic infrastructure platform.
